Standing in the shadow of the Islom Hoja minaret, this unassuming neighbourhood mosque, named the orchard keepers mosque, boasts some of the most exquisitely carved pillars in Khiva, adorned with delicate, flowing script. The date and the architect, Pakhlavan Kuli, are inscribed on the stone slab at the entrance.
Today, like so many of Khiva's sacred sights, it has been appropriated as a workshop for wood carvers. If closed, the museum workers in the Islam Hoja madrassah may provide the key if you ask nicely.
