Built in 1910 and standing in the shadow of the Islam Hoja minaret, this modestly sized madrassah was commissioned by Khiva's principal Koranic reader, Talib Makhsum. Today it functions as a cafe, serving oily deep-fried Uzbek snacks and tea in the cool interior of the maddrassah cells.
