Built by the principle secretary and accountant to Mohammed Rakhim Khan the Second, the Madrassah is dwarfed by the Mohammed Amin Khan onto which it faces. Still, both madrassahs fell prey to the secularising influence of the Soviet Tourism Industry and whilst the larger is now a hotel, the Matinyaz Divanbegi Madrassah is now a restaurant.
Roofed with an interior of alabaster, the restaurant is usually only open to tour groups booked in advance. It is an atmospheric place to dine and usually includes performances of Khorezm's music and dancing. Tables are positively groaning with food but some may find much of it a little too greasy.
