A fascinating collection of artifacts from different periods, the first is a handwritten medieval copy-book on science, algebra and astronomy. It includes contributions from various writers and culminates with poems and proverbs from Pakhlavan Mahmoud.
Beneath this, preserved in good condition, is the original treaty signed by Mohammed Rakhim II (Feruz) Khan in 1873 after the successful invasion of the Russian Imperialist forces. The Khan had fled from the seiged city to his brother's residence in neighbouring Gandiaman and it was here that he met with General Kauffman and signed away his kingdom, retaining his title but effectively becoming a vassal of the Tsar. This copy was produced for public circulation, while the two treaties (one in Turki and the other in Russian) signed by the Khan and the General were kept by the two parties concerned.
Also included in this exhibit is a selection of the first medals produced by the Khorezm Soviet in the early 1920's. One of these was given to Lenin as a gift of gratitude from the Khorezm Peoples Republic. Interestingly enough, this was one of only two medals he ever received and it can be seen in most of his official portraits.
