First the design is copied onto a special very thin fabric which is ironed on to the bez (background material). This forms a template for the design while it is being stitched.
We use three kinds of stitches in our suzannis. The first is a simple chain stitch, known in Uzbek as "Zanjircha", the second a basic satin stitch (tekis) and the third a couching stitch (basma).
When a section is complete, the template material is cut away to reveal the bez once again.
The suzanni is finished off in the sewing room, ironed and is then ready for selling.
